Current Short Courses:
Movement (NAT10915011 Expand physical vocabulary)
This unit will run from the 26th of February to the 18th of June on Thursdays from 6:30pm - 8:30pm in Canberra.
This unit describes the physicality a performer needs to be an effective performer on stage and screen. Performers must apply a high level of physical awareness and control to integrate voice, movement and acting technique in performance. This unit increases the learner’s body awareness and physical vocabulary, with a view to performance.
This unit will be broken down into three, stand-alone, modules delivered by subject matter experts which can be taken individually as non-accredited short courses, or together as a non-accredited or an accredited unit of study or towards the 10915NAT Certificate IV in Acting. This unit can be taken at the same time as the ON STAGE UNIT above with the option of cross-assessment for students in the accredited stream.
Modules making up this unit are as follows:
Comedic physical theatre elements: Thursdays - 26th of Feb, 5th, 12th and 19th of March (four weeks)
Cost (this module only): $228
Participants in this unit may also have the opportunity to be involved in supporting roles in the production for the ON STAGE unit at Canberra Comedy Festival 2026.
Movement foundations from contemporary dance to physical theatre: Thursdays - 26th of March, 2nd, 23rd, 30th of April, 7th and 14th of May (six weeks, with two weeks mid-term break).

Meisner Acting technique

This unit will run Tuesdays 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm, 24th March to 16th June
AREA OF STUDY:
This unit describes the development of instinctive, reflexive responses in the actor, so that in the moment of performance, the actor’s responses to in-scene stimuli are spontaneous, genuine and uninhibited by intrusive analytical thought. Through listening and responding in this way, actors create an authentic existence in performance. Moreover, the connections between actors in performance contribute to the audience’s enjoyment and level of engagement in that performance.

Tuesdays 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm24 March to 16 June
AREA OF STUDY:
This unit explains basic vocal health and voice production techniques and explores ways in which performers can use their voice in a performance context. Learners will undertake vocal training in order to develop a voice that is able to cope with the demands of being a performer.

CUAMUP511 Apply theatrical make-up and hairstyles

AREA OF STUDY:
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required by performers to apply theatrical make-up and hairstyles for performances according to make-up and hair plans.
The unit applies to those who are singers, actors, dancers, circus performers and comedians performing in commercial, competition or community settings. Individuals would usually work without supervision and are expected to apply initiative and judgement in the planning and selection of tools and techniques. They may also be assisting other performers.
